BLOOD POLICY
Blood Policy is Sam Routledge (Men of Steel, My Darling Patricia) and Martyn Coutts (Wayfarer, Deadpan) supported by various collaborators on a project basis. Blood Policy's debut work, Operation played to a sell out season as part of the 2006 Next Wave Festival. This work was then remounted for a season at the Victorian Arts Centre as part of Full Tilt and then toured to Is Theatre, Hobart.
The company is currently developing a new work, The Outside, which uses puppetry, machinima and performance to tell the story of a missing teenager amidst changing notions of safety and play in the virtual and actual world. For The Outside the creative team consists of: Sam Routledge (concept and direction), Martyn Coutts (Media Artist), Willoh S. Weiland (Writer) and DJ TR!P (Sound Design) plus 2 actors, a voice artist and a puppeteer who are still to be appointed.
The Outside has been rigorously researched and developed over the last two years with the support of the Australia Council, Arts Victoria, Federation Square, Hothouse Theatre, Playwriting Australia through the National Script Workshop and Arts House through CultureLAB. The final stage of development will be undertaken in April 2010. We are looking for venues and presenting partners to co-present the work in late 2010 or 2011.
“Operation proved to be a vertiginous and politically charged performance. It was a powerful taste of what digital and wireless technology can achieve theatrically.”
- Cameron Woodhead, The Age“Operation isn't just one of the most dynamic works at this year’s Next Wave Festival, it’s easily one of the most intriguing pieces to have recently played in Melbourne in any context… the constant layering of both narrative threads and visual fields creates an energy and dynamism which is entirely absorbing.”
- John Bailey, Realtime.
