ADVENT CALENDAR

The Advent Calendar was originally created at Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia as a feature of the city’s celebrations in the countdown to Christmas (2006, 2007, 2008). Conceived and directed by Creative Producer / Director Elena Vereker, the façade of the three story building measuring 20m x 22m was transformed into a giant Advent Calendar.

Tens of thousands of people attended this visually stunning free event fusing multi media, animation and large scale aerial performance which culminated in the ‘opening’ of an Advent Calendar window each night.

Audiences were captivated by the story which unfolded as the live aerialist performed as the main character in the specially created animation.

A unique aspect of the Calendar is the capacity to engage with all ages. Winning three Green Room Awards in 2009 (Best Direction, Best Production and Best Design).

The Calendar can be adapted to a countdown towards a civic event, opening or festival event and can be mounted in any large public space where there is a structure to mount the free-hanging design.

The Advent Calendar is a highly visual, physical event that connects across culture and is non- language specific.
