Torres Strait Islander artist Sani Townson (Saibai Koedal clan of Saibai Island) & Uncle Laurie Nona (Badu Arts Centre, Badu Island) are working with Insite Arts director, Jason Cross to develop this immersive visual dance-theatre work for young audiences.

The work is inspired by Sani & Uncle Laurie’s island home of Badu Island, of the Saibai Island in the Torres Strait. The work incorporates dance and physical theatre with moving and interactive projection.

The work celebrates their culture, the land, the sea, the sky, the flora & fauna, the people, and their stories of the past and present. While also questioning the future of their family, home, people & cultures as the consequences of climate change become a reality of the everyday and not just a threat in the future.

Uncle Laurie has created a collection of paintings and drawings inspired by Sani’s written treatment. The process sees these drawings & paintings animated by a team of graphic designers and animators.

Choreographed and directed by Townson & danced by four performers the work incorporates interactive projection which invites young audiences to actively participate on the dance floor in scenes that evolve in front of them.
