Sangam was born from the need to provide emerging and mid-career South Asian artists spaces and support in mainstream venues and projects while creating cutting-edge, classically based, contemporary, and experimental multi-form South Asian work.

Sangam is inspired, curated & directed by its co-Artistic Directors: performer/choreographer/ writer Dr. Priya Srinivasan and composer and multi-instrumentalist Hari Sivanesan. They are joined by curator Uthra Vijay who is a singer, composer and teacher.

Sangam Festival premiered in 2019, and returned in 2021 featuring 100+ artists, 4 venues, 4 weekends, and bringing an eclectic range of music, dance, spoken word, comedy, classical and experimental performances.

“As South Asians, it's important that we realize the reality of being people of culture on stolen land. I am excited by some of the conversations that Sangam has ignited and the opportunities it will create to be better allies and potential collaborators with Indigenous folk and other people of colour.”
