Theatrical storytelling, live music and puppetry combine in this new version of Jack and the Beanstalk. Prepare for a different twist on a well-known fairy tale in what promises to be a wild ride for children aged seven to eleven years.
This new musical fairy tale is the result of an international collaboration, facilitated by Jeff Stein, between Australian artists and Italian artist Chiara Guidi of Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio, a company critically acclaimed for creating some of the more confronting and original theatrical work over the past 10 years. The Australian artists include Scott Wright of Erth and performers Skye Gellman, Katia Molino, Drew Fairley and Christa Hughes.
Commissioned by Campbelltown Arts Centre in association with Adelaide Festival. Adelaide Festival gratefully acknowledged Windmill Theatre’s support for that presentation.

“Instead of wrapping its young audience in cotton wool, this inventive co-production offers them gleefully gruesome thrills.”
“Quirky characters, clever lighting, visual and physical theatre, masks, puppetry, circus, dance, dress-ups, sound effects, improvisation, asides, smoke, and an evocative score for violin, flute, saxophone and percussion, performed by the musicians and children drawn from the audience, are woven together to make Jack and the Beanstalk a must-see. The audience loved every bone-chilling minute.”
“Perhaps the best gauge of quality for this type of show is the reaction of the children in the audience. The children sat through the show (about 90 minutes no interval) enchanted and engrossed. Not a fidget to be felt. This show proves that even in a dark and complex world there can still be found humour and magic.”
