My Way
inDevelopment Project
My Way is a new collaborative work that combines karaoke, Frank Sinatra and his titular song, My Way to explore performance persona and identity, metamorphosis and legacy.
In a new creative collaboration, ambitiously experimental, renowned theatre makers and performers Astrid Pill and Ellen Steele will explore and break down the concept of artistic legacy and how humans now seem predisposed to insert themselves into pre-existing art.
My Way is a song that speaks to masculine grandeur and doing something on one’s own terms. The irony of a song that continues to be covered and replicated by performers doing it ‘my way’ is not lost. Sinatra himself garnered a reputation as being an individualistic, tempestuous, artistic genius, a concept not often applied to female artists. With this in mind, this work and its surrounding legacy is ripe for subversion.
