As we watch the lights go out we feel the clouds of confusion, disorientation and strange doorways, The Dementia Project looks at the intimate experience of the illness from the inside looking out.

So tragic it’s funny, The Dementia Project is a mixed media experiment that invites the audience into a labyrinth of the mind surrounded by vignettes, films, song and live performance offering glimpses into the maze of the lost mind, the decline of body and self and the torture of the long goodbye.

The work explores a hugely complex human and societal issue that is global. Dementia is estimated to increase from 57.4 million cases in 2019 to 152.8 million cases by 2050.

There is no known cure or prevention to date.

Dealing with brave, confronting and hilarious personal stories that probe our humanity and challenge our definition of ‘sanity/madness’, the work explores themes of childish innocence, imprisonment, freedom, the beauty of music and our connection through fragility.

The project is currently in Creative Development with a view to be available for presentation in 2026.
